New Jumper for Wayfarers
A STORE at one of Southport’s leading shopping arcades is to receive a complete makeover.
Jumper, which is one of the UK’s leading specialist retailers of exclusively designed knitwear and co-ordinates, will close on February 3 for a two week renovation.
The first week of work will see the original shop frontage sympathetically restored to emulate its former Victorian glory. The renovation of the frontage will be accompanied by new green and gold signage in keeping with the neighbouring store, Moss.
The second week of the project will see SRI Interiors move in to carry out a complete overhaul of the interior, laying a brand new floor as well as revamping the fixtures and fittings. This latest work forms part of an ongoing refurbishment project at the Arcade.
Jumper was bought out by textile firm, Viyella, 12 months ago. Wendy Cotton, regional manager for Viyella and Jumper, said: “Following a very successful 12 months for Jumper we are now rewarding the shop with a mini-makeover!
“We had every faith in the Southport store and this renovation reinforces our continued confidence in both the region and the combined Viyella and Jumper brand.”
Wayfarers Arcade manager, Yvonne Burns, said: “We are very excited about the restoration to Jumper. The changes should reflect the original Victorian features and create a great impression for Arcade visitors- it is one of the first things that people see after all.”
Wayfarers Arcade is a Grade II listed building and one of Southport’s most famous landmarks. It is home to more than 30 shops set on two floors including high street department stores and independent retailers.
The Arcade first opened its doors in 1898. Since 1976 Wayfarers Arcade has been managed by Lord Street Properties, the current owners, and it was renamed in the late 1970s after Wayfarers Arts, then its major retailer.
The first Jumper outlet opened in 1987 as a designer knitwear shop, its name has since become synonymous with excellent quality and English design. The head office is based in the rural setting of Cowan Bridge in the heart of the British countryside and now successfully operates shops all over the UK.
The store is expected to reopen for business on February 19.
