New store Zaps into Wayfarers

A SPECIALIST children’s shoe shop has opened its second store in Southport at the town's famous Wayfarers Arcade.

Zapatoes, owned by husband and wife team Richard and Diana Pott, has officially opened its doors at the indoor mall on Lord Street.

The couple opened their first outlet in Birkdale in January this year, after purchasing the former Scampers children’s shoe shop and renaming it Zapatoes.

Diana, a former training consultant at Barclays Bank, and Richard, a civil servant with OFSTED, decided to break away from their daily commutes to Knutsford and Manchester respectively and start their own retail business.

Diana said: "We were regular customers at Scampers with our son Benjamin until one day we found out they were going to close, so we decided to take the plunge and buy the business - and we have not looked back.

"Our Birkdale shop is doing really well and we wanted a second shop near to our original store that would serve the North of Southport and Wayfarers Arcade was the perfect location. Not only is the arcade away from the busy main street, which makes it child friendly, but it is also a lovely building which attracts a lot of customers."

Zapatoes, which is located at number 34 Wayfarers Arcade, stocks a wide range of children's brands, including Start-rite, Lelli-Kelly, Skechers, Primigi and Ralph Lauren.

Wayfarers Arcade manager, Yvonne Burns, added: "We are delighted to welcome Richard and Diana Pott, and Zapatoes, to Wayfarers Arcade. Zapatoes has already attracted a lot of interest from visitors and I am sure that it will be a great addition to the arcade."
