Digging deep to help Macmillan
WAYFARERS Arcade has hosted another successful Macmillan cancer collection, raising £253. The funds were raised by a mixture of public donations to a collection box and through the sale of raffle tickets, held at the Lord Street shopping centre.
The money generated will help Macmillan to provide patient grants, to assist those affected by the disease in the Southport area. The money will also go towards the work carried out by Clatterbridge Cancer Support Trust, where patients receive Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy treatment.
Wayfarers Arcade manager, Yvonne Burns, said: "Wayfarers is an ideal venue where people can stop and chat and meet with the ladies who are collecting. As cancer touches one in three people it is a charity that a lot of people can relate to."
Wayfarers Arcade adopted Macmillan Cancer Support as its named charity for 2005. Over £2,000 has been raised for the charity, a large proportion of which was generated by the Arcade’s Christmas grotto.
Pamela Walmsley, secretary and treasurer for the Southport and District Group, said: "Collecting in the Arcade gives us the opportunity to meet people who have had personal experience of coping with cancer and the services provided by Macmillan, and to provide a sympathetic ear to others who have just been diagnosed."
