Arcade’s new tenant is tailor-made
A PROFESSIONAL seamstress has sewn up a new business opportunity by launching a specialist service at Wayfarers Arcade.
Adele O’Brien, from Birkdale, a qualified designer, seamstress and milliner, has opened The Sewing Room at the famous Grade II listed arcade on Lord Street.
The Sewing Room offers a complete bespoke service from bridal alterations and remodeling to haute couture dress-making and made-to-measure corsets.
Adele, who started sewing more than 20 years ago, has a BA (Hons) and also a Masters degree in textiles and design. Over the years she has designed and created a whole range of bespoke outfits and hats for every occasion and budget.
She said: “I have been sewing for more than 20 years and although I’ve been self-employed as a seamstress for the past ten years I decided it was time to turn what started out as a hobby into a proper business.
“Fortunately, I have a lot of loyal and regular customers and I just needed a suitable studio to set up The Sewing Room and Wayfarers Arcade, with its central location and a classic building that attracts a lot of visitors, was the perfect place to be.”
The Sewing Room’s services range from small alterations such as trousers being shortened right up to commissions for ball-gowns for exclusive social events.
Yvonne Burns, Wayfarers Arcade manager, added: “The Sewing Room will be a great addition to Wayfarers Arcade and I’m sure with Adele’s dress-making experience and alterations service she will become a hit with shoppers old and new. We wish her every success with her new venture.”
